(BOWLING GREEN)--   A man accused of killing his son told a judge Wednesday that he’ll seek his own lawyer.

Forty-five-year-old Michael Lee Phillips of Saint John was arraigned on charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

He’s accused of shooting his 22-year-old son, Jeffrey Chisholm. The incident occurred shortly before 9 o’clock August 31 at a cabin on County Road 52 just off of Highway 61 between Bowling Green and Frankford.

Witnesses say the victim had been fighting with his father and other family members.
In a probable cause statement, Phillips allegedly told authorities that he had no other choice but to shoot his son.

Phillips was being held on 200 thousand dollars cash-only bond. He will be back in court September 11.
