A LaGrange man arrested on child abuse and methamphetamine charges in August now faces a second degree murder charge.
35-year-old Marcus Mays is scheduled to appear in Lewis County Circuit court on the new charge Tuesday. Mays was arrested on the child abuse and meth charges August 17th. In a probable cause statement, police say Mays told them he was angry with a girl in his care and reportedly pushed her into a toilet and struck her causing head injuries. The girl was taken to Blessing Hospital on August 17th. She died of her injuries August 21st at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. An autopsy determined the child died of a head injury sustained August 16th. Mays is held on $500,000 cash only bond.
