Murder charges have been filed in connection with a fatal shooting in Hannibal Wednesday night.

Just after 6 p.m. Wednesday, Hannibal Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 1500 block of Broadway.

Officers arrived to find a 46 year old male who had been shot. The man reportedly died at the scene.

A male suspect, later identified as 24 year old John M.R. Kurth of New London, was taken into custody for questioning shortly after the shooting. Kurth was taken to the Marion County Jail for processing.

Thursday morning, the 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County issued a warrant for Kurth's arrest, charging him with Second Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action.

Kurth remains in the Marion County Jail on one-million dollars bond.

At the time of the shooting, police said they believed it to be an isolated incident, and that there was no threat to the public.

The identity of the shooting victim has yet to be released.

The investigation by Hannibal Police into the fatal shooting continues.
