HPD Recovers Gun, High Capacity Magazines, Arrest St. Louis Man
A St. Louis man is in the Marion County after a traffic stop in Hannibal Friday afternoon.
Hannibal Police report an officer saw a vehicle traveling without a front license plate on Highway 61 near the Steamboat Bend Shopping Center just after 3 p.m. Friday.
The officer also observed the temporary tag on the back of the car was expired.
A traffic stop was made, and the officer smelled what he believed to be marijuana inside the car.
The driver told the officer he did not have a medical marijuana card and that there was a gun inside the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed the gun the driver had told the officer about, along with a second handgun, high capacity magazines and a 50 round drum magazine.
The second firearm had been reported stolen from Olivette, Missouri.
One of the passengers in the vehicle, 18 year old Tristan Holts of St. Louis, was taken to the Marion County Jail pending the formal filing of charges.
The driver and two other passengers were questioned and released.
A warrant was issued by the 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County, charging Holts with receiving stolen property.
He remains in the Marion County Jail on $25,000 bond.
