Steven Gavin was in court Monday, and he brought a new high profile defense attorney with him.

Monday was to have been jury selection day for Gavin’s retrial for the murder of Carlous Wires.

But, the trial has now been delayed until June, because it was learned Monday that Curtis Lovelace will now be representing Gavin in the case.

Lovelace is a former Adams County Assistant State’s Attorney, who himself was tried twice for murder.

Lovelace now heads up the Lovelace Center for Criminal Defense in Champaign.

Gavin’s first trial ended in a hung jury.
