A Quincy man gets the maximum sentence after being convicted of a murder that took place nearly five years ago.

In Adams County Circuit Court Tuesday, Judge Robert Adrian sentenced 57 year old Stephen Gavin to 85 years in prison for the murder of Carlous Wires in November of 2015.

A jury of nine men and three women found Gavin guilty of first degree murder and armed robbery in January.

Gavin was accused of shooting Wires to death in his home as the result of a disagreement over a cocaine deal.

Gavin’s first trial in February of 2019 had ended in a mistrial when the jury could not come to a verdict.
