Missouri Man Dies When Car Swept Away by Flood Waters
A 60-year-old eastern Missouri man has died after his car was swept away by floodwaters.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the victim as John Lyons of Sullivan.
The accident happened Tuesday near Meramec State Park. Lyons was driving a 1992 Lexus when he tried to cross a flooded road. The waters pushed his car off the roadway and it overturned, killing Lyons.
Heavy rain over the past several days has caused rivers to rise drastically in Missouri. Several are now well above flood stage, and more rain is expected through most of the week.
