Police: 15-Year-Old Rockford Girl Shot Dead

Police in Rockford say they're investigating the shooting death of a 15-year-old girl.

Police say officers responded early Friday to a report of a shooting victim. They found the girl on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. She wasn't breathing. A 19-year-old man also was shot in the leg. He was sent to a local hospital for treatment.

Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia says the Rockford Fire Department pronounced the girl dead at about 3:30 a.m. The Winnebago County coroner plans an autopsy later Friday.

Rockford had 18 homicides in 2014.
