There's really no way to put a smiley face on this new fact. 14 Missouri places were just handed a shameful "D" grade for crime and safety and there's no silver lining to this cloud.

This new designation is actually a bit hidden inside Niche's new 2024 Best Places to Live in Missouri list. They create this annual ranking based on public schools, home ownership, walkability, economy and a number of other factors. Out of curiosity, I filtered this new ranking and asked Niche to just who me the Missouri places that received a "D" grade for crime and safety alone.

Here's the naughty Missouri 14:

If you're not familiar with all of these Missouri places, many are suburbs of Saint Louis which explains a lot. I believe the 'murder capital' phrase gets unfairly thrown at Saint Louis when most of the big city isn't nearly that bad, but there certainly are some places that do have sky-high crime.

This really is a bad list to be on when you think about it. There's nothing more important than the place you live being safe for you and/or your family. The fact that so many Missouri places barely get a passing grade fr crime and safety (Yes, a "D" is technically a passing grade...don't ask me how I know).
