Sometimes it feels like you need eyes in the back of your head to be safe doing anything with money anymore. That's true in regards to a new warning from the FBI to Missouri residents about new attacks at ATM's.

Yahoo News shared the word from the FBI about an attack that is known as 'jugging'. Here's how it works. When you withdraw money at an ATM, the perpetrators are sitting in vehicles watching you. If it appears you have withdrawn a significant amount of cash, they wait for you to leave then follow you and rob you in a different location where security cameras aren't.

ATM thefts are happening all over Missouri. It happened in Phelps County and also St. Louis city not that long ago. Dallas and Barry County, Missouri believe their ATM attacks involved the same suspects.

The FBI advises that you do the following to prevent becoming another Missouri victim:

  • Know your surroundings and pay special attention to anyone in a vehicle near the ATM that isn't exiting to do business
  • Be discreet and try to not allow line of sight to anyone about any money you withdraw
  • Once your transaction is done, be very careful of anyone walking or driving your direction
  • When you reach your vehicle, lock doors and be aware if anyone appears to be following you

Yes, it would be easier to have eyes in the back of your head, but you need to at least be aware that these ATM attacks in Missouri are on the rise and do what you can to mitigate them.
