One of the worst nightmares you can imagine is being contacted by a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer alerting you that someone you care about has been in an accident. There are calls like that happening right now, but they're not coming from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The real Missouri State Highway Patrol just issued an urgent warning about a scam that is happening right now in the state. They say "incidents have been reported in the St. Louis (Troop C) and the Poplar Bluff (Troop E) regions of the state" already and you should be alert about what this scam is all about.

The scam itself is horrific. The villains are making calls and saying they are a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer working an accident scene and they'll mention that it's a friend or family member who is in trouble and could face monetary penalties for the accident they've been involved with. When the ask for payment over the phone, if you resist they'll threaten more penalties.

Here's what you need to know. These calls are happening in Missouri right now. The Missouri State Highway Patrol officers will NEVER ask you for money of any kind as they don't process bonds or anything of that nature.

If you or anyone you know has been contacted by any of these scammers, please contact your local Missouri State Highway Patrol troop headquarters. You might be saving someone else the misery of having a heart-stopping conversation with someone claiming a loved one has been injured and then getting ripped off.
