Emergency Recall of Contaminated Vegetables Now Includes Missouri
If you let out a sigh of relief that vegetables you picked up recently in Missouri were not included in the recent emergency recall, it's time to withdraw that exhale as Missouri is now included.
As we shared a few days ago, Illinois was a part of an expansion of the Food and Drug Administration recall of vegetables from Wiers Farms, Inc. Now in their updated bulletin, vegetables available in Missouri are now under recall, too. The reason for this recall is due to listeria contamination.
The following items were available in Missouri Kroger locations according to the FDA. They were sold in bulk in those Missouri stores:
- Anaheim peppers
- Cilantro – sold in bunches
- Cubanelle peppers
- Cucumber – whole
- Green beans
- Green Bell Pepper
- Habanero peppers
- Hungarian Wax peppers
- Jalapeno peppers
- Mixed Vegetable Box (shipped to Cleveland and Youngstown, Ohio Foodbanks only)
- Mustard Greens – sold in bunches
- Pickling Cucumber
- Plain Parsley – sold in bunches
- Poblano peppers
- Serrano peppers
- Tomatillos
All of these vegetables that were available in Missouri Kroger stores are in addition to the initial national product recall.
Listeria can develop into a serious illness for the very young, old and/or those with compromised immune systems which is why this contamination is so concerning. It would be a good idea to keep tabs on potential updates to this product recall by checking the new Food and Drug Administration bulletin.
