The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a Pleasant Valley police officer was shot during a traffic stop on Southbound Interstate 35.

According to the highway patrol, the officer initiated the stop Saturday evening. Upon being stopped, the occupant of a green Honda Accord exited the vehicle and began shooting. The police officer was struck in the face by one of the rounds.The suspect then fled in his vehicle.

The highway patrol says that an investigation led authorities to a suspect in Kansas City, Kansas. 31-year-old Omar D. Maria was arrested for an active federal probation violation warrant for his arrest issued by the U.S. Marshall's Service for a weapons violation and is also being questioned regarding the shooting of the Pleasant Valley officer. KMBC in Kansas City is reporting that a woman was also taken into custody regarding the incident.

Reports from both KMBC and KSHB identified the officer as Jacob Baldwin, who was in serious but stable condition, and was alert and talking with his family in the hospital.
