It was 11 years ago in July of 2012 when an auction was held in Rich Hill, Missouri. Bidding for a pie went wild and by the time it was done, a world-record amount.

How much did the world record pie sell for anyway?

The Guinness Book of World Records says that on July 6, 2012 in Rich Hill, Missouri a pie sold for an incredible $3,100. Jerry Mumma is the guy who ended up laying out all that cash for what was hopefully a very delicious pie.

The Los Angeles Times added the other tasty details. They said the pie was "a peanut-butter banana pie on a Hammond Pretzel crust". Nice. As they tell it, the bidders at the Rich Hill auction planned to set a world record and actually checked in with the Guinness Book of World Records people before that 2012 auction and learned the previous record was just below $2,000...so they decided to beat it good. And, they did.

$3,100 for a pie at auction remains the world record and it is held by the residents of Rich Hill, Missouri who know a good pie when they see one.
