Monroe City schools were locked down for about 20 minutes Wednesday afternoon.
Monroe City Police were notified that a Chariton County Sheriff’s deputy was overpowered by two inmates who stole a patrol vehicle and could be headed toward Monroe City. The lockdown started as buses were being loaded at the end of the school day. Students were returned to the building. Authorities say the vehicle was stopped in Madison and the suspect was taken into custody.
