Monroe City Schools were on lockdown for a time Thursday afternoon.
Monroe City Police say an officer on patrol near the middle school heard what he believed to be two shots fired. At 1:50 p-m,  police contacted school authorities and advised use of a precautionary lock down. A canvas of the neighborhood and an investigation determined the sounds came from a construction site near the middle and elementary schools. The lockdown was lifted at 2:12 p-m.
