Illinois Highway 106 is closed in Pike and Scott counties Monday for emergency sandbagging operations.

Officials with the Illinois Department of Transportation announce that Illinois 106 from Detroit east to its intersection with northbound Illinois 100 is closed until 5 p.m. Monday.

IDOT says the closure is necessary for emergency sandbagging operations on the levee in Scott County near the Illinois 106 bridge at Florence.

Motorists can detour by using Illinois 100 in Scott County or Highways 54 and 107 to Interstate 72.

Anyone traveling through the area can expect delays and should allow extra time. The use of alternate routes should be considered.
