It’s refreshing to see people on both sides of the river pulling together to assist folks impacted by the severe flooding. From the strong turnout of students and staff of Hannibal Public Schools helping fill sandbags, or volunteers helping shore up distressed levees, to the Salvation Army feeding the National Guard and volunteers, and the Quincy Gems making QU Stadium available to the Hannibal Hoots this weekend, these acts of service and kindness are what the heartland is all about. Too bad that spirit of cooperation is lost on some of our Washington politicians.
