While it wasn't as bad as Sunday, the Hannibal Hoots still came out on the short end of the scoreboard Monday, losing 6-4 to the Gems in Quincy.

Quincy scored first on a two-run homer by DH Cody Klotz and added single runs in the third and fourth.

Hannibal got on the board in the sixth when DH Chris Iazetta led off with a walk, stole second and scored on a single by third baseman Duante DeCello. DeCello stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by shortstop Josh Lane.

The Gems padded their lead with single runs in the sixth and the eighth.

The Hoots mounted a rally with two outs in the ninth. Second baseman Sam Nozicka singled and scored on a double by Iazetta. DeCello followed with a single, then catcher Brady West drove in Iazetta, putting the tying runs on base. But, Lane grounded out, ending the game.

Hannibal drops to 17-25, while Quincy improves 20-22.

The Hoots are at Terre Haute Tuesday and return home to face Danville Wednesday and Thursday at Clemens Field.
