The Prospect League will not take the field in 2020.

The summer baseball league for college players from around the country announced Friday they have decided to cancel their 2020 season.

League officials say the decision was based on the varying guidelines for safety, protection and limits on public gatherings and travel across five states that are home to Prospect League teams.

The league had originally postponed the start of its season until July 1st.

One of the teams affected by the league shutdown is the Quincy Gems, who have been members of the Prospect League since its inception in 2009.
