A three run fifth and a two run sixth were enough for the Hannibal Cavemen in their opener against Quincy.

Hannibal starter Dylan Terrell settled in after a rocky first inning to record the win on opening night. He went six innings allowing two runs on four hits. Terrell walked three and struck out five. Clinton Perez gets the save despite walking in a run in the 9th.  Perez relieved after Josh Turner issued three consecutive walks with one out in the 9th.

Gems starter Joe Mortillaro took the loss. He allowed three runs in 4 and 1/3 innings. Those are also his first earned runs allowed in the Prospect League. Mortillaro did not allow an earned run last season in 27 innings pitched as the Gems closer.

Hannibal is home again tonight for a game with Springfield. First pitch is at 7:05 at Clemens Field. Our coverage on khmoradio.com begins at 6:45 with the Pepsi Pregame Show.
