Two separate accidents on Missouri waterways leave a 6-year-old child fighting for his life and a 4-year-old dead.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says both events happened in the southern part of the state.

Troopers report 4-year-old Kayden Smith of Willow Springs, Missouri was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon after he was found unresponsive face down in the Jack’s Fork River.  The fatality occurred in Texas County.

Six-year-old Toby Zimmerman of Tunas, Missouri is listed in serious condition after nearly drowning in a private pond in Dallas County Saturday.  He was taken to a Springfield hospital.
