The National Weather Service issues a Flash Flood Watch for a portion of the area.

The flood watch runs from noon Saturday through Monday afternoon. Locally, counties in the watch include Audrain, Lincoln, Monroe, Pike and Ralls in Missouri and Pike County in Illinois.

The NWS predicts periods of rain with embedded thunderstorms, producing 5 to 8 inches of rain from Saturday afternoon through Monday afternoon, with locally heavier amounts possible.

Forecasters say this heavy rainfall will result in what it describes as, "life-threatening" flash flooding of low lying or poor drainage areas, along with smaller creeks and streams. NWS says major and perhaps historic river flooding is a possibility this weekend.
