Multiple flash flood watches and warnings have been posted by the National Weather Service for northeast Missouri and western Illinois.

A flood warning was issued for Marion and Shelby counties in Missouri until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Early Wednesday afternoon, forecasters were calling for another inch of rain with higher amounts possible through this evening. This follows a flash flood warning for the area Wednesday morning.

A similar warning is in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday for Adams County, Illinois and eastern Lewis County Missouri.

The entire area is under a flash flood watch through Thursday morning, with the possibility of very heavy rainfall over a short period of time.

The area gets a brief break from the rainfall Thursday, but varying chances of precip return Friday, continuing into next week.
