Gas prices in Missouri and Illinois continue to fall with the busiest travel weekend of the year upon us.

With millions of motorists hitting the road Wednesday and Thursday, a check of Missouri Gas Prices Dot Com shows the price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas continues to tumble.

Nationally, the average price of gas is $2.81 a gallon. That compares to $3.05 a month ago and $3.27 a year ago.

In Missouri, the average prices stands at $2.54, down 28 cents a gallon in the last month, and down 46 cents a gallon since last year.

As of Wednesday morning, most gas stations in Hannibal are selling a gallon of gas for $2.64.

In Illinois, the statewide average is $2.89, down 25 cents since last month and 44 cents cheaper than this time last year.

Most outlets in Quincy were selling a gallon of gas for $2.79 Wednesday morning.
