A by-product of Hurricane Harvey has been a sharp increase in gas prices in the area.

With ten oil refineries along the Gulf Coast shut down because of the storm, prices locally have risen as much as 30 cents a gallon since the first of the week.

In Hannibal, gas prices range from 2.25 to 2.39 a gallon. Prices were just below two dollars a gallon this time last week.

In Quincy, gas prices range from 2.34 to 2.64 a gallon.

Statewide, Missouri gas prices average 2.43 a gallon, up 34 cents in the last week. In Illinois, the average price of a gallon of gas is 2.56, up 22 cents a gallon in the last week.

Experts expect the steep hike in prices to be temporary.
