Marion and Lewis County Emergency Services 9-1-1 says you now have the ability to send a text message to 9-1-1.

Executive Director Mike Hall says the text system has been extensively tested since going live during the spring. Hall says calling 9-1-1 is still the preferred method of contact and that making Text to 9-1-1 available is important when calling is not a viable or safe option. You are asked to avoid abbreviations and slang for the sake of clarity. The service is not yet available in the entire tri state area. An automated bounce back message will be sent if a 9-1-1 text is sent in an area where the service is not available.
