The Quincy Gems broke the game wide open late Sunday, defeating the Hannibal Hoots 20-1 at Clemens Field.

Quincy scored a run in the first and two in the second. Hannibal answered with a run in the fourth. The Gems pulled away with four in the sixth, making the score 7-1. And then came the ninth inning.

The roof caved in the Hoots as Quincy sent 16 men to the plate, scoring 13 times on nine hits. Three of those hits were a grand slam home run by catcher Max McGuire, and three-run homers by third baseman Ryan Mantle and center fielder Francisco Rodriguez.

The loss drops Hannibal's record to 17-24, while the Gems improve to 19-22.

The Hoots are at Quincy Monday at 6:35 p.m.
