A Pike County, Illinois man is found guilty of multiple sexual assault and abuse charges.

A jury in Pike County Circuit Court in Pittsfield last week found 47 year old John Pope of Pearl guilty of five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and two counts of indecent solicitation of a child.

Pope was also found not guilty of four additional counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

After the four day trial, the jury deliberated about three hours before returning the verdicts.

According to Pike County State’s Attorney Zach Boren, because Pope was convicted of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child with respect to two different victims, Illinois law mandates that Pope be sentenced to life in prison.

A sentencing date has not been set, but a status hearing is set for May 24th.
