The Salvation Army Quincy Area Command is excited to announce the new leadership who will be coming to Quincy in July.

Captains Kristina and Michael Sjogren, current corps officers/pastors of the Norridge Citadel Corps outside of Chicago, IL, will take over the leadership following the retirement of Majors Andy and Cheryl Miller at the end of June.

When asked their first thought when they heard the Sjogrens’ appointment to Quincy, Major Andy said, “We are really happy to have them continuing the ministry here in the Quincy area. We know God’s plan is one we can trust in and enjoy. The Sjogrens will be a great fit for this area.”

The Sjogrens have been officers in the Army since 2009 when they were the corps officers/pastors at the Cedar Rapids, IA Corps in the Heartland Division. From 2013-2017 the couple served on staff at the Metropolitan Division in Chicago in the ministry of Youth and Young Adults.

As the couple prepares to leave their most recent appointment in the Chicago area, Captain Michael stated, "Kristina and I are anticipating this opportunity to move into such a great community and come alongside the many who are Quincy proud and are doing great things to keep it a wonderful community." "We are grateful to the many Salvation Army officers who have served [Quincy]," stated Captain Kristina. "We are humbled to follow such great leaders as Majors Andy and Cheryl."

The Sjogrens have two daughters, Rachael, (21) who is entering her final year at Olivet Nazarene University and Eden (19) who is entering her second year at Olivet Nazarene University. Rachael is majoring in social work and Eden is earning her Early Childhood Education degree.

Prior to becoming Salvation Army officers/pastors, Kristina was an elementary school teacher and reading specialist outside of Rockford, IL and Michael was the director of social services with the Salvation Army in Winnebago, County (Rockford, IL).

Kristina holds a BA in Elementary Education (Augustana College), MA in Teaching and Leadership (St. Xavier University) and is a Certified Life Coach/Marriage and Family (Olivet Nazarene University). Michael holds a BA in Social Work (Northern Illinois University) and a Master of Ministries (Olivet Nazarene University).

The Sjogrens love to travel together, exploring different parts of the country and the world where they enjoy hiking and experiencing the culture of each place they visit. Both Captains are avid baseball fans but live in a house divided when it comes to favorite teams; Kristina supporting the Cubs and Michael the Brewers.

The Captains plan to visit in early June which will allow Majors Andy and Cheryl the opportunity to introduce the new Quincy officers to the area, board members, and staff. Their first official day as Quincy leadership will be July 1.
