Illinois Women Warned About Vicious New Banking & Romance Scams
Obviously no scam is good, but I would argue the worst are the ones that prey on emotions to rob a person blind or worse. That's why there are urgent warnings for Illinois women to be aware there are current ploys that use text messages to lure victims into romance and banking problems.
I share this because I have had two attempts from scammers just over the past few days including this typical rip-off attempt.
There are now 2 new variations of this according to Reader's Digest. Just a few days ago, they said that women in particular are being targeted with these weird messages on their phone:
- A text claiming to be from your bank claiming someone has tried to charge $100 to your account and to reply if it's not valid
- Random messages from individuals claiming they're trying to reach someone with a different name in an effort to strike up a conversation to lure in the lonely
Many ladies in Illinois have received these texts and they're trouble waiting to happen. If you respond to the bank message, it will ask you to enter your bank information to "verify your identity" which is actually how they'll rip you off if you do.
The "wrong number" text scam is a slower version of evil as the perpetrator will try to develop a relationship before eventually emptying the bank account of the victim and breaking their heart at the same time. The state of Illinois is warning about this and it's important to pay attention to what they're saying is happening around the state.
There's yet another text scam that is very specific to Illinois involving the Illinois Tollway that the Office of the Attorney General warned about.
