In just a month, one area agency has already spent half of its summer utility assistance.

The North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) is urging qualified applicants to sign up before funding runs out.

The Energy Crisis Intervention Program began June 1. As of Friday (June 29) half of the $382,130 of assistance had been distributed. Assistance will continue until the money runs out or the program ends September 30.

The program pays overdue electricity bills of up to $300 for income-qualifying households.

People may sign up or request more information by calling or visiting their local NECAC County Service Center.
