More money is available to help needy people pay their utility bills.

The North East Community Action Corporation is getting an additional 102 thousand dollars in federal funding.

The money will help pay the overdue utility bills of qualifying electricity customers in 12 Northeast Missouri counties. To participate, you must have gotten a utility shut-off notice and meet other guidelines.

Between June 1st and Aug. 28, NECAC distributed more than 400 thousand dollars in utility assistance.

The agency is urging people to apply for the additional assistance because the program ends September 30th. Information is available from NECAC County Service Centers or by calling 1-800-748-7636.
