MODOT officials say Missouri 15 will be closed for an extended period just north of Mexico Missouri.

An inspection following Sunday morning’s gas explosion and revealed that the oil was cooked out of about 600 feet of pavement. MODOT Maintenance Superintendent Ron Calvin says the road surface is pitted like a golf ball with holes up to ten inches wide. The nearby Davis Fork Bridge is undamaged and passed an emergency inspection.

Work is underway to obtain material and equipment to make temporary repairs and seal the road but cold weather and potential rain create uncertainty on project timing. Permanent repairs will come as the weather stabilizes.
