The latest installment of "The Battle for the Paddle" was just that, as the Hannibal Cavemen battled back before losing to the Quincy Gems 6-4 Thursday afternoon at Clemens Field.

Quincy scored two in the first on an RBI single by first baseman Joey Polak and a sacrifice fly by shortstop Deion Thompson. The Gems scored again in the third on a double by right fielder Shea Stine, and twice more in the fourth on a double by center fielder Mitch Carriger and a ground out by Polak.

Hannibal mounted a comeback with a run in the fourth, driven in on a single by DH David Hayes, then added two more in the sixth on a two-run double by shortstop Collin Luty.

The Gems added an insurance run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Carriger.

The Cavemen scored once in the ninth on two singles and a pass ball and had the tying run at the plate when the game ended.

The Cavemen and Gems meet again tonight in Quincy at 6:35 p.m.
