Hannibal Cavemen Comeback Falls Short, Lose 7-5 at Quincy
A middle-inning comeback falls short Thursday night, as the Hannibal Cavemen again fall to the Quincy Gems 7-5.
The Gems jumped on Hannibal starter Derek Jones for five runs in the first two innings, the last two of which came by way of a two-run homer by left fielder Mitch Carriger.
The Cavemen's comeback began in the fourth, when they scored a run on two errors, a wild pitch and a single.
After Carriger homered again in the fourth, Hannibal scored twice in the fifth on a two-run single by catcher Noah Lee.
The Cavemen made it a one-run game in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk to Lee and an RBI single by pinch hitter Ed Reichenbach.
The Gems added an insurance run in the eighth when shortstop Deion Thompson doubled in a run.
The Cavemen return home for a two-game series with the DuPage Drones at Clemens Field. Friday's game starts at 6:38 p.m., with Saturday's contest beginning at 2:08 p.m.
