FBI Confirms Missouri State Capital Target of Bomb Threat Hoax
Missouri had one thing in common with many other states in America on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Its state capital was a target for a bomb threat hoax confirmed by the FBI.
The threat to the Missouri state capital in Jefferson City arrived Wednesday morning via email with the subject line "Explosives inside of your State Capitol" as reported by ABC News. They say the states targeted included:
- Kentucky
- Maine
- Missouri
- Oregon
- Nebraska
- Rhode Island
- Montana
- Oklahoma
- New York
- South Dakota
- South Carolina
The FBI confirmed that Missouri was one of the capitals targeted. They've issued warnings in the past about bomb threats whether they are real or hoaxes saying "The Bureau and its law enforcement partners take each threat seriously. We investigate and fully analyze each threat to determine its credibility".
The report says that the FBI believes the threat to the Missouri state capital and others "emanated from overseas" and was not a threat that originated within America.
Many state capital buildings were evacuated, but there are no reports that any explosives were found.
