Barges Break Loose at Quincy
US Coast Guard crews spent Monday afternoon rounding up loose barges on the Mississippi River at Quincy.
Reports indicate nine barges broke away from a northbound tow around 3 p-m Monday. The barges were hauling salt. No spillage is reported despite one of the barges striking the Bayview Bridge. Inspectors from the Illinois Department of transportation were called to check the bridge for damage.
