Asphalt Scam Warning

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies have been receiving reports of attempted asphalt scams around the county.  The scammers portray themselves as being with the highway department and offer to lay asphalt for a specific price. The solicitors get pushy and try to get an agreement to do the job immediately. Deputies say the scammers will do the job if you agree and then add unknown expenses to the bill and demand payment on the spot. Authorities say the County Highway Department does not solicit residents to do asphalt work.
