Marion County Sheriff’s deputies and Hannibal Police are warning of another phone scam.
Sheriff Jimmy Shinn says some are residents are getting calls from someone posing as a member of the sheriff’s office who advises that they have a warrant and that arrangements need to be made immediately or the victim will be picked up and taken to jail. In one incident that caller identified himself as Sheriff Jimmy Shinn. The scammer tries to persuade the victim to purchase gift cards and have the victim read off the numbers. Sheriff Shinn says no law enforcement agency will call you in reference to a warrant. Hang up if you receive this sort of call and never give card information over the phone.
