An archaeological dig is underway at the site of the Adams County Jail project.

Work is underway on the courthouse grounds in Quincy. A pauper's cemetery was on that site in the 19th century. The goal is to unearth any coffin or human remains before the new jail can be built. If remains are found,  they will be moved. That could cost Adams County around 150 thousand dollars but it is not likely to affect plans to start construction in August.
