If you travel Interstate 72 in Pike County, Illinois, you should allow some extra time to make your trip in the coming weeks.

The Illinois Department of Transportation reports that construction along I-72 northwest of Barry begins Monday.

The work involves widening, resurfacing and replacement of expansion joints. Lane closures in both directions will be necessary. Work is expected to run through the end of August.

IDOT reminds motorists to expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through the area, or alternate routes should be considered.
