There was a fatal house fire in Hannibal over the weekend.

Firefighters were called to a residential fire at 609 Hayden Street around 6:40 a.m. Saturday.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the house.

The blaze was brought under control in about 20 minutes.

The house was vacant, the utilities were shut off and the structure had been slated for demolition.

Investigators found the body of an unidentified person in the house.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is being conducted by Hannibal Police and Fire and the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office.
