A Quincy man has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the bludgeoning death of a 41-year-old man.

David Masterson made his first appearance in Adams County Circuit Court on Monday morning. He was arrested Saturday night in his apartment building, after a neighbor called police. When officers arrived, they discovered Jason Tournear of Quincy, who had a significant head injury and appeared to have been beaten with a metal pipe. He later died.

Investigators say Tournear was visiting the apartment building and had been in a dispute with Masterson.

Authorities say Masterson has an extensive criminal record and has served time for arson, robbery and aggravated battery.

A message seeking comment was left Monday with a public defender representing Masterson. He's being held at the Adams County Jail on $5 million bond.
