A special use permit to allow construction of a new elementary school passes on a 10-3 vote at Monday night ‘s Quincy City Council meeting.
Archer Daniels Midland donated the land to the Quincy Public School District last summer. Construction on the site at 30th and Locust could begin in September. School board officials say the 20 acre site just west of the post office will eventually house a 67-thousand square foot elementary school building. The donation of land for the school was announced last August.
School district officials have been looking at a variety of locations around town in recent months for school construction following passage last November of an 89-million dollar bond issue to finance several school renovation and construction projects including ongoing work at Quincy High School, the project at the Monroe School location.
