Bowling Green is losing the man who was named a Missouri Principal of the Year and was recognized among the top school administrators in the state.

Darin Powell has resigned as superintendent. He has not confirmed reports that he’s been offered a chance to return to the Hannibal schools.

Powell is a former Hannibal student, teacher and administrator who came to Bowling Green as principal in 2008.

He was named Missouri High School Principal of the Year in 2011 and was one of eight people statewide cited for outstanding performance as new superintendents in 2013.

Powell’s resignation is effective June 30.
