Missouri Governor Jay Nixon was in Hannibal Wednesday to tout the education spending plan he outlined in his State of the State Address.

Nixon visited Veterans Elementary School, speaking to a student assembly and then telling the press that an increase in tax revenues this fiscal year and a projected increase for next year enables him to ask for more money for the state's schools

The governor said the increased school spending would result in an additional $1.28 million dollars coming to the Hannibal school district, which would be used to increase access to early childhood education, hire more teachers and reduce class size.
