Hannibal School Opening Delayed Until September 8
The Hannibal Public Schools will not begin their new school year until after Labor Day.
In a special school board meeting Monday, the Hannibal Board of Education decided to delay the start of the 2020-21 school year until Tuesday, September 8th.
In a press release, Superintendent Susan Johnson announced that it was no longer in the best interest of the Hannibal students and staff to start school this Wednesday.
Among the specific reasons cited for the postponement of the beginning of school are the rate of community spread of COVID-19 and the resulting impact on families and staff and additional time to distribute devises to students for remote learning.
Along with the delay of the start of classes, all athletic activities and practices are shut down, which will affect the first two weeks of the Hannibal Pirates’ football season.
