Pike County Man Charged With Shooting His Wife

A man accused of shooting and seriously injuring his wife allegedly told authorities that the victim called him “stupid.” 

47-year-old Steven Lynn Rusher is charged with felony armed criminal action, domestic assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.

He’s accused of shooting 42-year-old Colleen Rusher in the forehead Wednesday afternoon with a shotgun.    The victim was taken by medical helicopter to a St. Louis hospital and listed in serious condition Thursday afternoon.

The incident allegedly happened in the couple’s rural home on Pike County Road 340 near the Lincoln and Montgomery County line.    According to a probable cause statement, Rusher allegedly said the couple got into an argument and he accidentally shot her after the victim called him stupid. The couple’s school-age son was home at the time, but was not hurt. Rusher was in the Pike County Jail at Bowling Green Thursday on 25 thousand dollars cash-only bond. A court date had not been set.
