Criminal suspects in Pike County, Missouri may one day make court appearances by video.

Commissioners plan to study the cost and logistics of conducting some legal appearances by video link between the courthouse and the county jail.

So far, Judge David Ash and Sheriff Stephen Korte have weighed in favorably. The idea would be to avoid security and safety problems. Commissioners caution nothing has been finalized and that more details are needed.

Other area counties use similar video links, especially in cases of alleged violence. Pike County criminal suspects are currently handcuffed and transported from the jail to the courthouse by sheriff’s department personnel.
